Fandom: THE SENTINEL Pairing: Gen, the sequel is Jim/Blair Length: Long Author on LJ: litgalAuthor Website: Worshipping the GeeksWhy this must be read:I'm hoping I'll get this last rec in before Crack Van shuts me down for the month. Real life caught me unprepared and I haven't been able to post as regularly as I hoped. But I hope you will enjoy the recs I've been able to make.
I LOVE Litgal! Her stories are intricately plotted, full of action, and beautifully written. I read them over and over. Shadows of the Past and it's recently posted (yipee!) sequel, Shadows and Siege, are crossovers with La Femme Nikita. Section is an ultra-secret, enigmatic and utterly ruthless multi-national organization. They know about Sentinels. They know about Jim. Every nightmare Jim and Blair had about discovery is coming true. This is a heart-in-your-throat story - full of despair and desperate measures with spot on characterizations. What more could a fangirl ask?
Answer - more stories from Litgal :-)

Fandom: LFN Pairing: Michael/Nikita Author on LJ: Unknown Author website: Unknown Why this story must be read:Well, my own strong "HR" or Michael/Nikita proclivities are now clearly apparent - and with this last rec, I will also reveal my love of AU stories set into entirely different times and places. BetsyG has a deft hand with all her fiction, but this story, told through a combination of diary entries and letters and set during the Crimean War, is particularly graceful in the way she makes use of a richly detailed historical setting to let us see our familiar heroes in a new light. The French LieutenantAnd this brings my erratic time at the crack_van wheel to a close. I hope that I will be followed by more LFN drivers one day, as there is plenty more where this came from.

Fandom: LFN Pairing: Michael/Jurgen Author on LJ: shanola22Author website: Unknown Why this story must be read:Just because a fandom doesn't have a lot of m/m, doesn't mean that what little there is isn't awesome. Shanola's story takes on the challenge of trying to figure out Michael and Jurgen's backstory - and gives us one incredibly plausible scenario. Like Most Things

Fandom: LFN Pairing: Michael/Nikita Author on Lj: unknown Why this story must be read:Because this story is that one story that takes the AU idea that should be horrible - Michael and Nikita in highschool - and shows us all that there is a reason we hold as a mantra, "anything can be done well in the right hands." And amw's hands are skilled indeed. This long fic pulls you in in the first few paragraphs, and from then on the setting is utterly captivating. As are amw's sympathetic portraits of all the familiar LFN faces. Finding the Way

Fandom: LFN and The Pretender Pairing: Madeline/Paul, Madeline/Ms. Parker Author on lj: unknown Author's website: unknown Why this story must be read:I missed the cross-over posting window, so I know this may be lost - but if I had to choose just one crossover to recommend, it would be this one. Athena captures so much of what I love about two wonderful women, Madeline and Ms. Parker, and then she tosses them together to see what happens. Sleight of Hand

Fandom: La Femme Nikita the Series Pairing: Michael/Nikita Author on LJ: not that I know of Author Website: none that I know of Why this story must be read:New Life is one of my all time favorite stories by one of my favorite authors. This story is another take on a possible future for Michael and Nikita, this one written before S4 and so it launches from a different point. Kate has a lovely way of taking the ordinary and making it real and beautiful, conveying worlds of hurt and pain with a simple gesture or a gentle look. On Kate's author page in the LFN archive, you can find both a prequel (written later) and a sequel - I like both, but this one is the one I re-read. New Life

Fandom: La Femme Nikita the Series Pairing: Michael/Nikita Author on LJ: not that I know of Author Website: none that I know of Why this story must be read:Following along in a series of 'what if' story recommendations, this is beautifully written, novella length story is Claire Gabriel's vision of the post S5 future. There is a sequel as well, which is also worth reading, but I like this first installment best. Shooting the Moon

Fandom: LFN Pairing: Michael/Nikita, Madeline/Paul Author on lj: not that I know of Why this must be read:This longer fic is one of the outpouring of stories written at the end of S4 in anticipation of S5. This story has plenty of action and scheming, as well as a lovely, gentle hand with the difficult place that Michael and Nikita were in personally at the end of S4. I must say, I much prefer Phoenix's elegant and tightly plotted version to most of what TPBT actually gave us! Coming out of Total Eclipse

Fandom: La Femme Nikita the Series Pairing: None Author on LJ: shriftAuthor Website: Bifictional BedlamWhy this story must be read:First, a mea culpa. I've been a terrible van-driver for my favorite little fandom. I'd blame RL for throwing me more than I expected, but that's a bit of a dodge. I'd also blame the problem (ha!) that there are WAY more than 12 LFN stories worth recc'ing and I got frozen by the need - as the first LFN driver - to rec the 'very best' in all genres. So, I've accepted that the best I can do is rec the stories that *I* like to re-read, and hope that a fellow LFN fanficfan will take the wheel another month and add to the list. On to the recs. For this, one of Shrift's stories, "Heaven" - a tight, painful (in the good hurty way) exploration of one possible past for Michael and Jurgen while Michael was Jurgen's "material." Heaven

Fandom: LFN Pairing: Nikita/Michael Author on LJ: delleWhy this must be read: This is a longer, beautifully plotted 'mission' story, written about mid-way through the original run, but set ahead in time in the canon universe. Because the focus is the mission, nothing about the world is truly out of place, but readers who know how the series played out might detect a few differences between what ~delle guessed might happen, and what TPTB gave us. The story has the perfect mix of mystery, section-style intrigue and action, blended with just the right amount of development of Michael and Nikita's ongoing and painfully intense and challenging romance. This is one of my early favorites. ~delle has a fantastic touch with the darkness of the world of Section, and the ways this affects the lives of those trapped within it, but without bleeding over into either either angst or nihilism, a delicate balance indeed! A Delicate Balance

Fandom: LFN Pairing: Madeline/Operations Author on LJ: jaybee65Why this must be read: For my second rec, a "TR" story featuring Madeline and Paul, and the white room chair. This story must be read because Jaybee captures fully all of the elements that make this partnership sing: the power games, the snark, the sex - more or less in that order! Set right at the end of "I Remember Paris" (S3 - if you aren't familiar with LFN, one of the show's gimmicks was that the number of words in the episode title matches the season number. One word titles = S1, two word titles = S2, and so on) this story is well worth your read. ( Here is a short taste )Read it now! Breaking Point

Hi, I'm the driver for La Femme Nikita the Television Series this month. LFN, as it's fans know it, debuted in 1997 and ran for four and a bit (8 episodes) seasons. During the original airing it inspired a rush of fanfiction, and while the flood has long since tapered off, there is still a small active corps of fanfiction fen, and now that all the seasons are available on DVD the ranks seem to be growing again. I initially offered to drive the LFN small fandom van in October of 2004(!) (I know - where does the time go?) and in the several computer moves since then lost whatever sad fandom summary I started writing. Realizing that if I waited to get the perfect overview written, February would be over before I recommended a single story, I'm beginning with a small overview which I plan to keep working on until it is complete, and then get on with the recs! Fandom: LFN Pairing: Michael/Nikita Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: unkown Why this must be read: For my first rec, I'm selecting one of my early favorites in the fandom. (Yes, I'm one of the HRs - but I'll be reccing a range of stories this month!) This is an episode based story from the second season, "Psychic Pilgrim." It must be read because it captures some of the intricacies of Section and its multiple agendas, along with the reactions of many characters, canon and original, to the first onscreen-sex between our star-crossed lovers that everyone else inside their universe also gets to watch unfold via hidden cameras. This story is also beautifully written. Night Before/Morning After

Oh boy, xover day again, always a tricky one for reccing Oz fic, since that one just doesn't easily connect up with too many other fandoms, but here's a good fic to check out, going outside the usual Oz/SVU realm. Fandom: Oz - La Femme Nikita Pairing: B/K Author on LJ: kaynyneAuthor Website: not sure Why this must be read: Because it's bittersweet and sexy, and teases the reader with an intriguing, sad but satisfying what-if. To say too much more would really be giving everything away, so I'll let this excerpt do the talking: ( a sample )Go here to read the rest: Closed Connections
