Noise by Dilanne Thomas (PG-13)

Hi I'm Aingeal and I will once again be driving for due South this month. I'll be mostly reccing Fraser/Vecchio slash but hopefully there will be a little bit for everyone. In fact I'm starting off not with slash but with gen.

Fandom: due South
Pairing: none, Fraser & Vecchio gen
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: An Archive of her fanfic (various fandoms)
Why this must be read: This is a wonderful gen story for the insights we get into Fraser's character. Fraser is finding it hard to cope with the city noise but what happens when he loses that completely?

We see Ray Vecchio caring for his friend who once agian is keeping things close and won't reveal the extent of what has happened straight away but Ray keeps pushing and finally Fraser lets him in to help.

We see how stubborn Fraser can be at keeping things quiet and how stubborn Ray is at getting to the truth. It's a lovely example of their interactions.

Note this isn't the fic I originally recced but that one had been recced before so this is another by the same author.

However, it wasn't the heat that had kept him awake. The noises of the night had been the worst sleep ravagers.

Three times the air had been pierced by car alarms, once a large motorcycle had roared the length of West Racine, another time there had been a terrible screech of brakes that had sounded like it would end in the sickening sounds of a crash... but hadn't -- and then there had been the woman's scream that had turned out to be a drastic overreaction to her escort's perceived flirtation with another woman. He'd been halfway down the fire escape when he heard the snatches of shrill conversation that explained away the need for intervention.

He had slowly made his way back up the metal steps and into his apartment after that. The effects of the fight-or-flight adrenaline rush took some time to wear off, but it didn't much matter, on this night there always seemed to be something new to rouse him once he had relaxed enough to settle back to sleep.

Summer in this crowded, dirty and, above all, noisy city was taking its toll on the Mountie.

You know, I used to live in a very small town. If you heard a siren, it meant a neighbor was in trouble. You DID something about it. When I moved to the city, it took me months to convince my brain to let me sleep through them.
