Why this must be read:
Where You Lead I Will Follow is one of the most beautiful death stories I have ever read. It's a songfic, and Anita uses the lines of the song to perfection in this story. When I first read it I could barely see the screen through my tears. It is painful, bitter sweet, chock full of emotion, both happy and sad; contains love, romance, affection, friendship as well as angst, and the urge to whack Gibbs at times with something very hard. It's utterly moving and totally and utterly believable as it tells the love story, that doesn't always run smoothly, of two men and what death can do to the survivor. It deals with canon issues very well, it looks at their lives together, their love, their affection as well as death, and how some losses are just too much to bear. However, it does have, for me, a happy ending. And Stargate-1 fans will enjoy the passing reference to Jack and Daniel.
"If you really love me, you let me get married again." Gibbs smirked.
Ducky felt hurt. This was pure manipulation. He glared at Gibbs and bit his lip. "That's not fair."
"Please?" Gibbs sounded like a little child who wanted a candy. "Please, Duck?" Gibbs sat down closer next to Ducky, and he could obviously smell his alcohol breath.
"Jethro…" Ducky sighed and decided to take advantage of this time, that Jethro was almost drunk and begging for him to break a promise. He quickly reached out to Gibbs' head and pulled him closer, into a kiss. Ducky would be angry with himself afterwards, he knew that, and Jethro would hate him. To Ducky's surprise, Jethro answered his kiss and wrapped his arms around him.
The kiss was sweet, bitter sweet even, but Ducky felt triumphant. He had longed to this kiss for too long.
"So, that means a yes?" Gibbs gently broke off the kiss. "Will you?"
Ducky nodded, instantly knew his place. Jethro just gave in to the kiss because he wanted him to break his promise. He got up, grabbed his hat and headed out the door. Jethro had hurt him. He had manipulated him. He had blackmailed him. It wasn't fair. Luckily, Ducky was good at forgetting things he didn't want to remember, and he had to forget, if he still wanted to work with Jethro.
