Why this must be read: *This* is how you do original characters. Set between CotBP and DMC, the residents of Tortuga are confused by and curious about the new stranger amongst them, who they’ve dubbed "The Admiral," due to his tattered but still impressive naval officer’s uniform.

Gossip and speculation run rampant: "Some thought he was a lieutenant or a captain kicked out of the Navy for being a drunk; afraid to return home in shame. Others suggested that he was a pirate gone a bit funny from all the sun, sea, and salt and had killed an officer, stolen his uniform, and decided to act the part. A few others suggested that it was the elusive and now missing Commodore Norrington, the once infamous and now disgraced pirate hunter." But, God knows, that couldn’t be the case—right?

I adore the concept of "The Admiral." I especially like how meddow’s Norrington, no matter how far he's fallen, still aspires to help others. The idea that the protective element of his character would still come through is perfect.

meddow follows up with a still superior sequel, "The Truth of the Matter," in which the so-called "Admiral" ends his silence and finally reveals his history to the inhabitants of the pub he most often frequents—sort of. This half, um . . . caused me to get something caught in my eye. Yeah, that’s it. Stupid pollen.

oh wow, thank you for reccing these. Seriously. I've gone full on in crush over Norrington lately *G* and this? OMG, perfect timing. All the POTC fic I've ever seen is mostly the big three and you are just amazingly well timed to feed my addiction!
