Warm in the Night, Cold as a Stone - NC-17
Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: John/Scorpius
Author on LJ:
astrogirl2
Hello! Well, I started this month out by recc’ing John and Aeryn, easily the most popular pairing in the Farscape fandom. This recc swings in the complete opposite direction. I’m speaking about what’s probably the most disturbing of pairings; John and Scorpius.
Why this must be read:
There is literally heaps of fic written about John and Scorpius and the struggles that exist between both characters, but there is very little out there bold enough to tackle them in a sexual nature.
astrogirl2 has done exactly that with the story linked below. This is John and Scorpius after they have fulfilled their purposes, left with only each other. Their reactions are plausible given the situation; it’s angsty and raw and quite surprisingly, very hot. Even if you never considered reading this pairing, this is one story you shouldn’t pass up. Expand your boundaries and enjoy!

That surprises me, it really does. (I'm going to go on a tangent here, I know it's a fic community but as someone who never got into Farscape fanfic I'm curious.) To me, John/Scorpius was the most obvious slash relationship of the series and certainly had so much onscreen that just screamed of chemistry.
I wonder if it wasn't written because Scorpy isn't 'hot'? Because he's ugly and creepy and can't be romanticised the way other 'evil' characters are in fanfic? (For example, Snape in Harry Potter fandom is supposed to be ugly, but he's human, and therefore can be found attractive.)
Or perhaps it's the case that 'alien sex' isn't really a turn on to slash fans.
Whatever the case, John/Scorpius stands out in my mind as one of the most intense/tortured obsessive relationships I've ever seen on screen and there's a lot of beauty in that.

Couldn't agree with you more there. I love the dynamic between these two characters; how they start out as the complete antithesis of one another, but as the series progresses we learn how much they have in common, and how flawed they both have become.
But I think the lack of fic that treats the John/Scorpius pairing sexually is due to the fact that Scorpius was intended to be physically intimidating, repulsive. He represents a cruel kind of intellect, calculated, vengeful and ruthless to achieve his ends.
John however, was intended to be physically attractive, and is supposed to represent the better human qualities, like compassion and loyalty (although John often does things for purely selfish reasons, which just makes him even more human). So, not only does the reader have to reconcile the physical, but also the metaphysical differences between these two characters. Often, it's too much to ask.
Me, I don't have this problem. Great writing can overcome these sorts of issues and I personally adore John and Scorpius portrayed together.
