Dream On by Simple Man (NC-17)

Author Website:
simple__stuff (not comprehensive)
Why this must be read: Melancholic, wistful, insightful, sexy, haunting and fantastically in-character. House broods in the middle of the night, masturbates to memories and fantasies of the man he won't let himself pursue, and drifts into a dream.
simple__man deftly depicts a House who's ill at ease with just about everything, who knows his body intimately but suffers a detached and antagonistic relationship with it, and who wants intimacy in general and Wilson in particular but won't try for them. This is the House we love, in pain and stubbornly scientific and self-depriving and quietly desperate; and he dreams of the Wilson we love, handsome and flirtatious and annoying and able to sling back whatever House dishes out. House's longing for Wilson is palpable without descending into angst, the snapshot-fantasies are hot, the masturbation scene (and not only that scene) contains the wonderful little details that you sometimes get when a fic is written by a guy, and the dream at the end has a terrific surreality reminiscent of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, of meaning within seeming nonsense. I haven't been able to forget this since I read it.
Excerpt:
Wilson in the kitchen, cooking for them. Two plates, side by side, an impromptu dinner-for-two. Sex on the table, later; but now, there's his hands on those slim hips, apron around that trim waist, the strength of bone under his palms. Wilson shooing, and great, smacking kisses. Laughing, and a thwack on his arm. Homey, sappy, affectionate. Impossibly perfect.
Nice. His toes spread like starfish, and he whimpers despite himself. 'I want that,' he thinks, but it's impossible. Maybe more impossible than a Jameson-Jolie match up on the 50-yard line.
So much he doesn't know, so little information to go on. Could he live like that, without making the both of them absolutely miserable? Would Wilson even want the same thing? No data to collate, and no way to get the data without ruining the sample.
