VID REC: MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. - Bohemian Like You
Vidder: P.R.Zed
Musical artist: Dandy Warhols
Pairing: Napoleon/Illya
Vidder on LJ:
przed
Vidder's website: Zed's Place
Why this vid kicks ass:
My apologies for putting this rec out at the wrong time, but since I won't have internet access at the right time, I figured better early than never.
There is a terrible dearth of MfU vids, a miserable state of affairs that will hopefully change dramatically once the DVDs finally become available (DVDs, yay!), but that doesn't mean that there are none at all in existence. The best one, also by P.R. Zed, is Moscow Drug Club , which has already been recced. "Bohemian Like You" is a bit of a cheat because it's actually a multifandom vid (Starsky and Hutch, Due South, The Professionals and Man From UNCLE) but although Napoleon and Illya have to share screen time with all these other guys, it's still well worth watching because it's so funny and so cleverly done, picking out some absurdly slashy moments from the various shows (I come close to death-by-laughter every time we reach the shot where Hutch cooks Starsky dinner) and stringing them together in a storyline that's also an exercise in Compare & Contrast. One day MfU fandom will have lots and lots of vids all of its own, but until that day comes, it's well worth claiming this one.
This is it from me, folks. I've thoroughly enjoyed this reccing business, and I hope I managed to turn up at least one story you hadn't read before, or reminded you of forgotten loves. Happy holiday!

(I think it helps that this is some of the best writing I've seen in any fandom - and I've discovered the DVD's are on the way. This must have the best way of avoiding Deathly Hallows spoilers ever!)

Peeped at your journal (as I do) and would like to friend.
Then I'm going to hide from the internet until I've read THAT book. I've even decided against queuing for the midnight release in case some drunken idiot reels out of one of the (many) pubs adjacent to the bookshop and shouts out spoilers. I don't think I would get away with just manslaughter.

Good idea about avoiding the midnight masses. I was rather assuming that if you hadn't pre-ordered, then you couldn't get a copy for love or money (but maybe you've pre-ordered?). I'm hoping one of my family might be bringing a copy to France, otherwise I have to wait until friends have finished their English copy (I'm too stingy to pay extra for the English version, and there's no point reading it in German).

I agree that the fic is often marvellous.

(It wasn't even planned - I was visiting another set and got taken for a tour of the building - it has an amazing horseshoe shaped corridor with doors along it - every door opens into a sound proofed viewing box that looks out over one of the sound stages. I saw an episode of Doctor Who being filmed as well. It was ten o'clock at night which was apparently quite normal for the way things got filmed then.)
