Why this must be read:
Another excellent AU fic, this time a dark and twisty re-imagining of the Winchester family. Everybody called them the Wolfpack – every hunter, at least.
If John had gone a little darker after Mary's death, raised the boys completely off the reservation of "normal," instead of splintering apart they all three might have turned even further inward toward each other. Feral to the near-point of psychosis, sharp and dangerous as a naked blade, Sam and Dean still hunt alongside their father, and the three of them can pull down anything in their way.
Told in excellent Ellen-voice as she deals with having them in the Roadhouse one night, the story rattles with tension, though it's darkly satisfying to know that this time the Winchesters won't be separated. Tabaqui completely taps into the primal brain for this one: your gut sends up warring signals of "guh" versus "back away very, very slowly." It's not often you get a story that's both strangely joyful and creepy as all get-out at the same time. Read this and feel your hackles go up from the very beginning; they'll be a long time coming back down.
