One Plus One by Moondroplette (PG)
Hi there, I’m
elizabethhelena and I’ll be driving the crackTorino for August. My theme for this month's recs is "and now for something completely different". I’ll be recommending stories that in my occasionally humble opinion did an excellent job using different characters, scenarios, styles of fic, and ideas to shed new light onto this old (er, I meant venerable!) fandom.
Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Author on LJ:
moondroplette
Author Website: her stories can be found on the Me & Thee archive here
Why this must be read:
The only reason Rebel and I survived reviewing very possibly the worst S & H episode ever, Huggy Bear and the Turkey, was because it marked the only appearance of Huggy’s cousin Leotis, played by the very fine Stan Shaw. Like this actor, the story One Plus One captured the complexity of a young black man who despite his mental limitations is far more observant than the so-called normal people around him. Unlike the original episode, Moondroplette neither idealizes nor belittles the mathematical ‘idiot savant’ Leotis. Instead, she creates a very realistic and fascinating look at this fandom’s favourite slash pairing through the eyes of someone who sees truth from a unique yet no less accurate angle.

Thank you for pointing the way to it.

One of the perks of doing crackvan is finding all sorts of stories I missed when they were originally posted.

One Plus One
Leotis was way smarter than the Turkey (not that hard, I admit), and a heck of a lot better looking too (ditto). I'd love to see more fic featuring him.
