Darkness and Light by Rushlight (R)
Fandom: CRIMINAL MINDS
Pairing: Jason Gideon/Spencer Reid
Author on LJ: Rushlight on InsaneJournal
Author Website: Rushlight's fanfiction
Why this must be read:
I'll be honest, this pairing hits my unequal power squick (teacher/student, adult/teen, military commander/commanded), but this story dragged me into the peril and delivered tense scenes fraught with concern in combination with excellent hurt/comfort. And who doesn't love it when Reid gets captured by a sociopath? I mean, really.
The team's reactions to Reid's disappearance, and their attempts to solve the puzzle, were another highlight. And this is set in the first season, so you'll get a chance to meet Elle.
"Have you heard from Reid?" Hotch asked, sounding puzzled.
Gideon frowned. "No. Why?"
"He hasn't come in yet this morning. I thought maybe you got a message that he called in sick."
That was definitely odd. Reid had never been late to work in all the time he'd been at the BAU. "I haven't heard anything. Did you try calling him at home?"
Hotch shook his head. "Not yet. I just thought maybe you might have heard from him. He probably just broke down somewhere."
"Maybe he's sick," Elle suggested.
"Or something personal came up," Morgan added. The corner of his mouth curved upward slightly. "Contrary to popular opinion, he probably does have a life outside of this office."
That explanation seemed to satisfy just about everyone, since they turned back to their work without another mention of Reid's tardiness.
Gideon glanced at the clock, feeling uneasy. It was only twenty minutes, but still. Reid would have called if he'd broken down somewhere. Unable to shake the sense of foreboding that gripped him, he made his way back to his office and dialed Reid's home number. There was no answer. Chewing on his lower lip, he tried Reid's cell. Still nothing. When he got the voicemail message, he hung up with somewhat more force than was strictly necessary.
Warning per the author: nonconsensual sexual situation, and some pretty disturbing accounts of a past case Gideon once worked on.
