Why this must be read:
These are amazing glimpses into how Hotch's marriage could end. The tone shifts vividly in each, from grief and sadness and anger to defeat and betrayal. These don't necessarily paint Hayley in the best light, but I feel like the vignettes are true to Hotch's character, at and away from work.
Vincent is the unsub in 1x08 Natural Born Killer, a man who made a career out of his taste for violence.
Aaron had been inebriated before: in celebration, in devastation, and even by accident. He had used designated drivers, called cabs, and once he'd even slept it off in the bushes. But he had never, ever driven drunk.
Now, staring blankly at the hospital linoleum, he wanted to put a hole in the skull of everyone who had, even once.
He'd been in Oregon when the call came, eating bad Chinese takeout with his team and pouring over an arson. He knew he'd dropped the egg flower soup in his hand. He didn't know if there had been any files beneath it. He remembered dashing from the police station, driving like a bat out of Hell toward the airport. He didn't remember the flight home. He couldn't even call the familiar lines of the BAU jet to mind.
He remembered the look on the receptionist's face when he'd burst into the hospital, wild-eyed with a gun at his hip.
