Fandom: Prince of TennisPairing: [Higa Chuugaku] Hirakoba Rin/Kite Eishirou, [Hyotei] Atobe Keigo/Oshitari Yuushi. Author: _arrhythmicWebsite: n/a Length: 12,901 words, 2-Part Short. Rating: [NC17] Sex, language, violence. Why this fic must be read: Prince of Tennis is a pretty sunny universe. The anime and manga focus on dedication to the sport and team. Trouble is occasionally woven into back-stories about other teams like Fudoumine or the American West-Coast Junior Invitational and, sometimes, Konomi's fanbooks will drop tasty hints. Otherwise, the series mostly skips the teenage angst-fest. Where manga and anime hint, however, fandom rushes to fill in with fiction. _arrhythmic's Trouble-in-paradise story of Rin Hirakoba and his growing crush on Higa captain, Kite Eishirou, has all the elements of an angstfest without the manipulation and inadvertently comical melodrama. She writes about real life problems and a boy's reactions and struggles to be self-aware, and she does this with such clean, spare, matter-of-fact prose that the double edge of schadenfreude doesn't come out for its thick, juicy slice of soul. Fandom: LIFE ON MARS Pairing: Sam/Gene Author on LJ: evildemandredAuthor Website: N/A Why this must be read:It is widely recognised that I like dark!fic. The darker the better, normally. I just had to rec this piece because it was the one that nearly broke me. This had me hiding behind the sofa in terror, unable to tear myself away from the writing, but knowing what was coming. This is bleak and nasty and bitter. But, there again, not everything in life can be sweetness and roses. This is set post-2.08, and contains descriptions of graphic violence and character death. Fandom: Gone with the Wind Pairing, Characters: Rhett/Scarlett, Bonnie, Belle Watling Author on LJ: none Author's website: GWTW Fanfiction by JLTWhy this must be read:This is an AU that begins just after Rhett has visited Belle Watling in the aftermath of Ashley's birthday and Scarlett's public disgrace. Scarlett gets jealous, and confronts Rhett. It's a nice fluffy (if these two could ever be considered fluffy!) piece, perfect for this terrible weather we're having. This story is based more on the events of the film than those of the novel. Another Lost Cause by JLT

Fandom: SLINGS AND ARROWS Pairing: The author calls it "sort of Darren/Geoffrey," but I don't really see it; there's also a bit of Darren/OMC. Author on LJ: likethesun2Author Website: Finishing the HatWhy this must be read: A freakishly awesome Darren voice. This story, set between S1 and S2, was written for remix_redux, and there's a link to the original in the header. It's a series of letters to Geoffrey from Darren, who is in Poland directing a high-school production of Cats. (I will pause while you consider the absurdity of that premise. But this is Darren we're talking about, here, who is made for absurdity.) Epigone perfectly captures Darren's egoism and calculated pretentiousness. Fandom: Drake's venture Pairing: Drake/Doughtie Author on lj: entropy_houseAuthor's website: B7 and otherwiseWhy this must be read: The author is a classical writer in B7 where she works wonders. Same in DV. This fic is both hot, cruel and our heroes are portrayed in their flawed glory and their humanity (or lack of when it comes to Drake). The style is excellent and the story full of surprises, until the end. It's one of my classical "Squie Puppie" fic because Thomas Doughtie is brilliantly himself, and you'll feel sorry for him. It's also a fic where Doughtie, obviously, does not die (PJS) and where the two men find - maybe - an acceptable modus vivendi. Or not. ( An exerpt )Go! Run! Read it! Trial and error

Vidder: Lithiumdoll Musical artist: Mattafix Pairing: None Vidder on LJ: halcyon_shiftVidder's website: Alter IdemWhy this vid kicks ass: Sharp, edgy editing; pretty, angsty superheroes; transhuman clones in an urban-noir post-holocaust future; kick-ass action, motorbike stunts, and a rebel nation. This songvid has it all, and it makes me want to re-watch Dark Angel all over again. Awesome. Big City Life

Fandom: YOUNG WIZARDS Pairing/Characters: Harry-centric. IMO, this is a gen piece, but the author suggests Tom/Carl, implied. Author on LJ: astraevirgoAuthor Website: Profile @ FFN.netWarning: Spoilers for A Wizard's Dilemma. Why this must be read: Because there just isn't enough Harry fic around, or enough parent fic at all; and this features Carl in an extremely appealing and appropriate way, demonstrating what is, for me, one more facet of wizards' work. A conversation between Carl and Harry, post-Dilemma/Abroad. Hurty, hopeful. Ordinary and Extraordinary.

Fandom: GORGEOUS CARAT Pairing: Ray x Florian Author on LJ: Arwensong Author Website: http://www.mags-nificent.com/MSW/Arwensong.htmWhy this must be read:A delightful and well-written story in which Ray finds himself in a difficult situation and Florian proves that he's much more than a pretty pair of amethyst eyes. It's very nice to see Florian in the spotlight here, where he's in control and far from being a victim. A Turn of the Card

Fandom: CRIMINAL MINDS Pairing: Hayley/Hotch, Vincent/Hotch Author on LJ: dragonladykAuthor Website: Fanfiction as tagged on her journalWhy this must be read:These are amazing glimpses into how Hotch's marriage could end. The tone shifts vividly in each, from grief and sadness and anger to defeat and betrayal. These don't necessarily paint Hayley in the best light, but I feel like the vignettes are true to Hotch's character, at and away from work. Vincent is the unsub in 1x08 Natural Born Killer, a man who made a career out of his taste for violence. ( An excerpt )Warnings: noncon. Five Ways Aaron Hotchner's Marriage Ended

Fandom: CRIMINAL MINDS Pairing: Reid/m, Reid/Hotch Author on LJ: scribblinlenoreAuthor Website: Lenore's StoriesWhy this must be read:I feel like the opening paragraphs sell this one beautifully. If you're not curious to see how Reid reacts on a date, than you're a better person than I. The table is tucked away in a quiet corner, between a pillar and a potted palm, no one paying the least bit of attention. Still, Spencer can't decide what to with his hands. On the table, he knows, is rude, but folding them in his lap makes him feel like a girl. Not to be sexist, of course. He likes girls. It seems important to remind himself of this as he waits for his Internet date, "a successful 40-something male seeking male 25-40 for something more than just a good time."
Local newspapers have taken to calling their unsub the Gay Ripper, a serial killer preying on young homosexual men in the D.C. area, a string of seven gruesome murders in less than three months. The press continues to treat the attacks as random, but at the BAU, they know it's all very carefully planned, the men specifically targeted, each one found in clothes he'd wear to go out, stomach contents suggesting dinner at an expensive restaurant only hours before death, all the victims frequent visitors to the personals on Carl's List.
We haven't been able to find a computer trail, so we need to lure the unsub to us, Hotch had told Spencer. We've developed a personal ad based on the ones placed by our victims, but we need someone to play the part. Are you up for it? All In A Night's Work
