Did I Tell You? by CC (PG)
Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Length: 10k
Author on LJ: none
Author Website: http://www.ccwriter.org/
Why this must be read:
Sometimes the tags - the final little scene after the resolution and before the closing credits - just weren't good enough. CC has written what she feels happened, or would have happened, at the end of a lovely H/C episode called "Shootout", wherein our hero Starsky is shot in the back and he and Hutch and the rest of the people around them are held hostage. Hutch has to take care of Starsky and get them out of their predicament.
CC has taken Dobey's POV of the shining love between these two men showcased in the hospital, with Dobey observing, before Hutch arrives to see Starsky, and after.
"Huh?" Starsky blinked blearily and tried to sit up.
"Stay put. You're not ready to be getting up yet. What do you need?"
"Uh, I don't know. Nothing, I guess." Starsky lay back against the pillow and stared up at the ceiling, eyes blinking furiously against sleep. "Did I ever tell you…no, of course I didn't. I couldn't tell you any more than I could tell him." He shifted restlessly in the bed, free hand fidgeting with the sheet at his waist. "That'd ruin everything, wouldn't it? Lose our jobs, fam'lies prob'ly—"
"Starsky," Dobey interrupted sharply. He knew Starsky wouldn't be saying these things if not for the medication. He also knew that if Starsky kept talking, he was going to say something that Dobey didn't want to hear, something none of them could afford for him to hear.

Did I Tell You?

no subject
Besides being one smart, beautiful tag, it touches just right on the line people had to walk. It's all too easy to forget the context of the time.
Lovely.
