Why this must be read: Combines what is possibly the best Abby and McGee characterisation with a beautifully ace look at McGee's creative process. Not so much poetry in motion as detective fiction in a sad case of writer's block. Humourous and spot on.

He stared at his desk for a while. He chewed on his pipe. He walked around the apartment twice, and made a sandwich. Still, no words miraculously appeared in his mind-or on the page.

Maybe a freewrite would help…the sandwich really wasn’t, he thought to himself, pushing the plate away after only a few bites. He rolled up a clean sheet of paper, cracked his knuckles, and started typing again.

He had writers block

The room was quiet

Too quiet

Too cliché

Too meta

Shut up and type

Shut up and kiss me Lisa demanded

Ziva will kill me

“He was killed murdered, Tibbs,” Tony nodded. “Bullet was a through and through. McGregor’s looking for it.”

“Yeah? And what are you doing, Tommy?”

“…helping.”
