A Dog's Life by Ashleigh Anpilova, PG-13
Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: Leroy Jethro Gibbs/Donald 'Ducky' Mallard
Length: 8122 words
Author on LJ:
nakeisha
Author Website: Partners Forever
Why this must be read:
Ashleigh Anpilova is a very prolific writer in the NCIS fandom. Actually, she's the major contributor to all fics about Gibbs and Ducky. Where does she get her inspiration from, you ask? I have no idea, but I do know that I hope that it never runs out! If she had a secret hiding place for all of her inspiration, I wouldn't mind being a criminal and get caught by Gibbs (or Don or Colby... but that's an entire different fandom!).
I've stumbled across A dog's life when I wasn't really one who wanted to read fics, bookmarked it to save it for later, and only stumbled across it just now.
And it had me in stitches.
Oh, sure, it's an answer to the 'Self-Insertion' challenge for Amnesty 2007 (might have that wrong, but hey, I don't do challenges!) and Ashleigh wasn't planning on writing herself, and therefore used her cute little Norfolk Terrier Lacey, but it's brilliant.
It seems that, whatever Ashleigh writes, it's always a brilliant piece of work.
As the first light of dawn shone in through the window, Jethro awoke and glanced over to the corner of the room.
There curled up, her nose tucked inside her paws, on the sweater he'd dropped on the floor the evening before, was Lacey. As he looked she opened her eyes and met his gaze; she seemed to be asking him a question. He just nodded at her, heard her sigh gently, and watched as she reburied her nose under her paws and settled back down.
He glanced at the clock, saw that there was a couple of hours before they needed to get back up, rearranged the covers around Ducky's shoulders and let himself drift back to sleep. He'd just act surprised to see her there when Ducky woke up.

Oh, thank you so much, Anita, for the wonderful things you say. Not only about this story, but about my writing and stories in general.
And I must say this is one of my own personal favourites (well, it has to be).
Lacey and I thank you so very much.
*Hugs you*

I second everything that Anita said.
And my grand-dog is too cute for words.
