Why this must be read:
Adrianna is a new writer in the NCIS fandom, and she recently started to post her stories (and I have to admit, I'm still catching up on fic!). And she sure knows how to make an entrance!
So there's angst, and then there's angst.
Sure, what I wrote doesn't really make any sense at the moment but all I could think of when I read this was 'wow.' And that's what I commented too; 'WOW, 'nuff said.'
The way Adrianna describes the pain in this fic is almost lyrical. It's so real, you can almost touch it.
This story has it all; friendship, the team, pain, shocking stuff, well written characters, actions and reactions... and of course, Tobias Fornell.
I love Tobias. And Adrianna writes him so well. He's the man we all love, and he's also the guy who verbally hits Gibbs with a non-existent nine iron to try and get him back to his senses, because there's only one man for Gibbs; and that's our Ducky.
“Giiiibbs” Fornell drew out the name in a faux relaxed fashion. Leaning on the edge of Gibbs’ desk, Tobias scrutinised Jethro as he passed through his personal space without a word of acknowledgement and grabbed his gear. Tobias humphed as he registered an increase in the usual hardness Gibbs wore to work.
“Boss, McGee got an address off that trace and Ducky needs to see you.” Dinozzo looked expectantly at his boss as he sailed past him on the way to the elevator. “Me and Ziva’ll take the address… aaand what shall I tell Ducky?” Tony, feeling like he was lacking his anticipation skills this morning, flinched as he waited for an answer.
“Yeah, go Dinozzo, Ziva… and tell McGee to go see what Ducky wants.” Realising that even Fornell had paused at the command, Jethro turned mid stride. “Coming? Or does the FBI pay by the hour?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Abby’s eyebrows furrowed “Why are you going to see Ducky? Why isn’t Gibbs going?”
“I don’t know Abby” the phone call finished, McGee swivelled off the stool and headed for the door.
“But Ducky wants to see Gibbs. He…” Abby suddenly fell silent, a pained look on her face. “Go McGee, just - go.” Muttering the last, Abby turned back to her computer screen and glared at it.
Avoidance was bad, very bad, she could feel it. He was clearly in denial, or running away from it or… anyway it was bad. Stopping herself from dreaming up just how bad, Abby turned on her heel and grabbed the nearest evidence bag to calm her extra caffeine-jangled nerves. Last night had been another sleepless one, but not due to her usual pastimes. Leaving work late, Abby had spotted the cab pulling up behind Ducky’s Morgan. A bad feeling had spread through her the moment she saw him get out.
It hadn’t been easy to get him to open up, at first the only opening up he did was a hundred hot tears on her shoulder. In the end, the only real information she had extracted from him was that it involved Gibbs, Gibbs and Ducky, together but not together and that it had obviously not gone well. Abby didn’t push him. Ducky was quite the one for decorum and privacy when it came down to it, despite what his usual ramblings might indicate. Besides, Abby knew that there were some occasions when silence was the greater comfort.
