In the TV Light by Dira Sudis (explicit)
This is my last rec. Thank you guys so much for putting up with me for the inaugural bandom month; it was a lot of fun. I hope that my overview was helpful and informative for you guys, and that you enjoyed the recs. I hope I've sucked some of you into this insanity. Trying to narrow all of the fantastic bandom stories down to only twelve recs was excruciating. I've left out so many amazing stories, and ugh. But at least I know that there are some great reccers following me who will surely pick up my slack.
Fandom: BANDOM
Pairing: Gerard Way/Bob Bryar
Author on LJ:
dsudis
Author Website: Words, Words, Words
Why this must be read:
Like I said, I vacillated so much on what story I wanted to pick as my last rec to round out the month, and I finally decided on this one. It's a quiet, silly, first time My Chemical Romance story, and it contains some of my favorite cliches. There's pining and obliviousness and everyone-knows-but-the-main-character, and the author gains about a thousand geek scene-cred points for gratuitous mentions of Mystery Science Theatre 3000 and Blackadder.
Bob tilted his head toward the TV. "Wanna watch? There's enough for everybody."
Gerard grinned, rubbing one eye like a little kid, and said, "Sure, what is it?"
Bob stared. "Gerard, seriously, you were a loser geek in high school and you didn't ever see Blackadder?"
Gerard shrugged. "The other loser geeks didn't like me enough to share their tapes."
Bob patted the couch beside him. "Come on, I'll start it over."
Gerard sat down, wrapping his blanket around himself, and when Bob settled back to watch from the beginning, he realized Gerard had planted himself a careful foot away, his knees drawn up to prop his chin on.
Bob stared. "You're seriously going to sit over there?"
Gerard looked over at him without moving his head, the glow of the TV screen reflecting off the whites of his eyes. "I'm respecting the personal boundaries of others this week."
Bob didn't think that was a Step, so it must have been a therapy thing. He rolled his eyes. "Well, I'll tell you to knock it off if you start drooling in my ear, okay? Come on."

I hope I've sucked some of you into this insanity.
Oh, you've succeeded. This insane fandom is a huge, spitting mass of a black hole that sucks everything in sight into its gaping maw, I swear to God. And I can't stop grinning as I type that. It's an addiction. I love the purity of the crack in bandom. And it's possible that before this month I was sure I'd never get into an RPF fandom? I've been somewhat weird about explicit-RPF, historically - not just in fanfic, we're talking movies, too; if I knew the film was about real people and the rating was over PG-13, I could get a bit wigged. The people in the story had to have been dead for over two hundred years before I was consistently and decidedly okay. It's a - thing - of mine, for which people have made fun of me for years. *grins*
But then there was that intro. And I was curious, because a lot of good writers seem to have drifted in the path of this fandom. And there were picspams! Cool! And the first rec - might as well see what all the fuss was about, right? And it was a good fic. So, then the bandom tag at del.icio.us. And then it was a few weeks later and you recced the Nestyverse and I blinked and sat back and went, but wait, I've already read those, and then suddenly I woke up and my brain flailed its way out of the BANDOM FOG and my eyes went like this --> O.O, and my brain went holy fuck I've read hundreds of bandom fics in the past few weeks! And I'm still a bit wigged when I think about it, but oddly enough not for the RPF aspect, because alongside the imitating-life stories are all the ones about spies and telepaths and pirates and the point's been strongly brought home that it's really not them, you know? Mostly I just can't get over how I was sucked into this without even noticing.
I'm laughing again. It's been a really entertaining month. Thank you. :D

When I first entered bandom, I experienced a similar bandom-coma, so don't worry. Pretty soon your qualms will disappear - or maybe that's just your sense of shame?
Thank you so much for taking the time to tell me this, it's made my day!

And I don't really have an overall favorite band - it seems to come in moods. I started out reading just about everything MCR I could find, but right now I'm really into FOB. Although my approach to Panic is probably the one I find most odd. I find their dynamic in fic incredibly annoying, but, um, in a good way? A lot of the stories are cute and bitchy and demanding all at once. Like the cat! Like when your cat demands attention by sitting on the keyboard when you're trying to write an essay - you're torn between locking her out of the study or just giving in and giving her the attention she's pretending she doesn't want.
