Why this must be read:

Sam and Dean recuperate in a motel room after a hunt. It takes Sam (and the reader) an awful long time to figure out why Dean’s not getting well.

This is great writing. The pacing, the slow, skillful build-up to the revelation, the clever insertion of clues -- wow. An intense horror story that I think Stephen King would have been proud to author.
