Rebirth of the Future by Seven o'Nine (PG)
Fandom: EARTH: FINAL CONFLICT
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: none that I'm aware of
Author Website: http://www.angelfire.com/scifi/sevensrealm/
Why this must be read:
Seven has a simple and yet somehow lyrical quality to her stories. I always think of them as very peaceful to read (even when she includes more action-oriented content in her stories). They have that slightly unearthly quality that always drew me to the show.
This story takes place after the season four finale, as Liam and the Taelons awaken on a volcanic island, they have to make decisions about their future. People change, and even Zo'or gets a chance to find his own sort of peace in a way that I can see as being the only possibility in the aftermath of what happened to the character in season four.
Unfortunately, it's only posted in its entirety on this forum board, so you'll have to skip through a lot of the feedback posts between parts, and the story itself it split across three threads (all linked here) due to the limitations of the forum, but it is well worth the effort to sort through it all.

Liam turned and walked down the sunny beach, feeling sand seeping into his disintegrating boots. He grimaced and ripped open the brittle sides, then tiptoed barefoot along the sand. The heat of the sun and sand wasn't anywhere near as bad as that eruption had been — for a split second, Liam had been sure that he had died and gone to hell. He remembered his last conscious thought had been, What did I do wrong?
But he wasn't dead. He was very much alive, and the island was far from being hell. It was like being reincarnated on a new world.
