Why this must be read:

Canonically, and genetically, Liam Kincaid is Agent Sandoval's son. The fact that he wasn't, shall we say, "actively involved" in his birth is a case of quibbling. The concept of Sandoval having a son he doesn't know about was very briefly touched upon in the show, but never actually explored. Thus, it became a common fanfic topic.

This is an example of a case where the information regarding Liam's parentage is revealed only in dire circumstances, and it's not a happy story, but it's one of the best examples of this type of story that I can think of.

Fandom: EARTH: FINAL CONFLICT
Pairing: Liam/Zo'or
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/161199/Adnesle
Why this must be read:

I always always impressed with the way Adnesle wrote, for a non-native English speaker. Over the course of her writing, she slowly gained familiarity with English, and her comprehension improved accordingly. I will warn you that her lack of English profiency means the writing is a little hard to understand sometimes, some of her older texts replete with spelling and grammatical mistakes, I think that if you look past that and to the story, it's made up for.

The story is almost a cliche theme amongst EFC writers (particularly those with a fondness for Zo'or/Liam fic, of which I shamelessly count myself amongst). In the third series, Zo'or is revealed to be going through the Taelon reproductive time, and is finding it rather painful and slightly maddening. It's never mentioned again, but mostly it seems to have been taken to translate to the Taelon version of ponn farr by fans of the series.

"Liam, what do you think of Zo'or?" asked Da'an, just a few seconds after his young protector had entered his offce.

Liam turned around and finished to take off his coat, looking at Da'an strangly. "Well..." he started hesitantly, "I consider him as I consider any other Taelon that is firmly against the idea of an alliance with humanity. Why do you ask?"

Da'an looked thoughtful at his feet for a moment. Obviously he had not received the answer he had been hoping and waiting for. "Let me change my words then. Has your opinion of Zo'or... changed since the... incident?"

Author on LJ: none that I'm aware of

http://kaarpaaj2.tripod.com/fanfic/fanfic/tina/index.html
Why this must be read:

I am not one of Tina Price's greatest fans, I must admit. I found her stories to be not my cup of tea, but I'm including them here because they were notable within the fandom, and are representative of the portion of fandom that clung to season one even after the change in cast and direction.

On it's own, this is just a cute little vignette, but, really, I'm recommending the whole set of Tina's stories, since they're one of those collections that pretty much everyone in fandom had read (and a lot of people were divided on).

Da'an rose from his seat. "I can see that you have grasped a part of the truth." He moved toward the doorway and paused to speak once more, but in the Taelon language.

"I strive to become..." Boone translated the phrase but did not recognize the final word.

"...as your own hand," Da'an finished for him. "You have said that I am the bridge between our people, but you were mistaken Boone." He blinked sincerely. "Together WE are the bridge."

I also include Tina's work since later stories, which dip into the Boone/Da'an pairing, display a rather fascinating oddity of the EFC fandom. Canonically, Taelons are neither male nor female, but the pronoun 'he' is used for ease of reference, though it isn't accurate. This has led to some, like Tina, who seem uncomfortable with the notion, altering the pronouns used to refer to the Taelon as 'she'.

I would always laugh upon reading a fervant disclaimer from an author declaring their fic not to be slash, even though everyone involved was using the same gender pronouns.

7th-Jun-2008 01:30 am Rebirth of the Future by Seven o'Nine (PG)
Fandom: EARTH: FINAL CONFLICT
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: none that I'm aware of
Author Website: http://www.angelfire.com/scifi/sevensrealm/
Why this must be read:

Seven has a simple and yet somehow lyrical quality to her stories. I always think of them as very peaceful to read (even when she includes more action-oriented content in her stories). They have that slightly unearthly quality that always drew me to the show.

This story takes place after the season four finale, as Liam and the Taelons awaken on a volcanic island, they have to make decisions about their future. People change, and even Zo'or gets a chance to find his own sort of peace in a way that I can see as being the only possibility in the aftermath of what happened to the character in season four.

Unfortunately, it's only posted in its entirety on this forum board, so you'll have to skip through a lot of the feedback posts between parts, and the story itself it split across three threads (all linked here) due to the limitations of the forum, but it is well worth the effort to sort through it all.
