Why this must be read:

This is a well-characterized look at Charles Xavier after X2 through the eyes of an unnamed student. It's subtle and lyrical and as achingly painful as it should be, and the implications of the narrator's mutation are fascinating. All of C. Elisa's XMM stories are well worth reading, but this one's a good place to start if you're new to the fandom.

c_elisa is one of my favorite authors, so I struggled with which story to rec. I really wanted to rec the "History Teaches," series, but I finally decided it probably wasn't the best intro to the fandom, and that by the time I finished warning for everything potentially disturbing in "Half," I'd have scared everybody off.
