A Relative to Truth by Graculus (PG)
Hi. I’m Elijahwildchild and I’m driving the MFU van for the very first time this month. Haven’t got the L-plates off yet so please bear with any howlers until I know (or at least pretend to know) what I’m doing…
Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE
Pairing: Napoleon/Illya
Length: 109K
Author on LJ: Graculus (sorry - can't do a link as it crashes)
Author Website: The Grotto
Why this story must be read:
I thought twice about reccing this one. Not because I don’t think it’s utterly fab. I do. And I’ll tell you why in a minute. I thought once because I only discovered it last night on muncle when I turned on the beast in the study after a month away. Since it’s already up on muncle I guessed most of you would already have seen it. I thought twice because all you zine fans will probably already have found it in Relative Secrecy 10. However, it’s so damn good that I’m reccing it anyway. So, for those of you, like me, who have undergone years of devastating MFU deprivation and are only now discovering the wealth of delights out there on the interweb-thingy here’s the rec.
Firstly it’s an amnesia story (and I find these intriguing). It begins when Napoleon retrieves Illya after a month at the hands of THRUSH – and discovers he’s not the man he knew. Thereafter it’s a powerful exploration on the essence of an individual. Just what it is that makes someone who he is and how key this is to the person’s relationships with those around him. It’s also about loss and letting go and missed opportunities. When I read it I wept and laughed and punched the air at different points in the story. (I do tend to get a bit involved in what I’m reading…)
Go and read it – please. If you don’t find something in it that touches you then you can call my mother a hamster… Enjoy.
A Relative to Truth
PS Let me know if you have trouble with any of the links. It's crashed on me more times than I can count this morning - sorry.
