Misery Loves Me (Ironic Title by P.Wentz) by Ethrosdemon (PG)
In bandom, we have a phrase. It's used to refer to a particular phenomenon: when one's indifference to a particular public persona grows into active repulsion that is somehow blended with fascination, only to turn, one strange day, entirely of its own volition, into a weirdly embarrassed but still entirely wholehearted affection. This phenomenon we describe with the phrase, "I got Wentzed."
Fandom: Bandom (FOB focus)
Pairing: Pete/Patrick
Length: Shortish
Author on LJ:
ethrosdemon
Author Website: The Biblioteque
Why this must be read:
In this story we get introduced to some crucial elements of the Pete/Patrick mythos. Oh, I said it. Anyway - you've got Pete's "expansive" ideas driving a saner Patrick quickly around the bend, you've got a co-dependent slightly obsessive relationship that everyone tries to pass off as normal, you've got freaking In and Out burger, and my favourite: you've got Patrick outwardly complaining about the whole thing but secretly loving it.
In my worldview, pretty much everyone exists somewhere within a continuum of Wentz. If you think he's a strange looking horror, don't worry, you just haven't been Wentzed yet. Go read this story; it'll help nudge you in the right (and inevitable) direction.

Most of Pete’s offerings are the usual Peteness—skulls and bats and hearts bleeding huge drops of inky blood. Sometimes they’re accompanied by tattoo-style banners with arcane commentary like arterial bleeding is reliable unlike you or when I say love, usually it’s irony. Patrick has his own notebook where he copies all those phrases in his own crabby, tiny script. Sometimes there’s a bit of synergy to that and Patrick will accidentally copy several of Pete’s unrelated outpourings and a hook will emerge. For the most part, though, Patrick’s life isn’t that simple.
Patrick’s desktop theme is a Pete Wentz original he scanned himself: two stick figures with exaggerated fangs protruding from their mouths, one with a blob of a hat, the other with bangs covering half his face. A wobbly circle of a full moon shines below a banner reading: forever is self explanatory.
In my worldview, pretty much everyone exists somewhere within a continuum of Wentz. If you think he's a strange looking horror, don't worry, you just haven't been Wentzed yet. Go read this story; it'll help nudge you in the right (and inevitable) direction.

(P.S. Your outlook on this fandom is perfectly in line with mine, except that you make it funny. Your recs always make me laugh. I'm enjoying the month so far, thank you)
