The Rational Mind by Sam Storyteller (PG)
Fandom: SHERLOCK HOLMES
Pairing: Holmes/Watson
Length: 1500 words

Why this must be read:
I've been trying not to recommend the same author twice, but I'm making an exception in this instance, because I only just found this story and author when I was hunting for a crossover that hadn't been recced before, and I likes it I does, both for the topic and because I'm fascinated by the discipline of fixed length ficlets and hadn't seen this variant before.
This piece, done in segments of 500-400-300-200-100 words in descending order, takes on the recurring theme in Holmesfic of the consequences of Watson's war experiences.
It was not my intent to bring any strife into our agreeable bachelor lodgings, but unfortunately the strife followed me there. I awoke from a nightmare of the Afghanistan campaign to what I was certain was gatling-gunfire, only to find that it was Holmes, banging loudly on the door to my bedroom.
"Watson? I say, Watson!"
