Why this must be read:
I'm a little nervous about this rec. Not because I don't believe the story is worthy. It's awesome, and if you haven't read it, you're going to thank me for pointing you in the right direction. I'm concerned because I'm writing this at work, during my lunch hour, and I'm not able to consult the spreadsheet I'd made of S&H stories already rec'ed on Crack Van (yes, I made a spreadsheet--quit laughing) to see if this story has already been featured. I scanned through Memories, and it doesn't look as if it's already been rec'ed. If I'm wrong, I apologize. But I've been a little lax with my recs this past week, and I'm trying to get caught up.
Morgan Logan or Molo, as she is known, is one of the most popular authors currently active in S&H. She writes both gen and slash (though probably more of the latter). She is known for breezy humor, Hutch/hurt (god love her!), scorchingly hot bedroom scenes, and guys that are so damned affectionate with each other, you want to reach through your monitor and hug them yourself. As a bonus, she's not afraid of angst. This story has all of the above.
This story is set post-SR. Starsky hasn't been out of the hospital long. Hutch has rented a beach house so they can live together while Starsky is convalescing. Everything seems to be going fine, but Hutch can't help but fear things are going to take a turn for the worse. He isn't eating or sleeping well, he can't relax, and to top it all off, he has discovered he is in love with his partner--a revelation he is not yet willing to share.
Molo's Hutch is a guy who is pretty hard on himself. He doesn't really believe he deserves to be happy, he can't help but analyze everything to the point of inertia, and he isn't entirely convinced he is someone Starsky could love. At least not the way he wants to be loved. Good thing Starsk (who, let's face it, has his own problems to deal with) knows how to handle his beloved Blintz.

From Equilibrium...
"What's going on with you?" Starsky asked him straight out. "Tonight was supposed to be a celebration."
"What's going on with you?" Starsky asked him straight out. "Tonight was supposed to be a celebration."
"I did celebrate," Hutch smiled wryly.
"Yeah, I saw that. You were really knocking 'em back." Starsky's voice held the faintest hint of disapproval. Ridiculous. Hutch had seen him toss down more than a couple on too many occasions.
"Just trying to unwind," Hutch said, easily. He made as if to rise but Starsky's hand came out to press down on his thigh. The hand was almost intimately placed, and Hutch felt a flash of heat at the touch. He looked up into Starsky's knowing eyes and his heart made a shuddering attempt to halt in his chest.
"We ever gonna talk about it?" Starsky asked, his voice low.
Oh, Christ. He knows.
