NCIS/Due South (G)
Title: A Meeting Of Worlds
Pairings: Leroy Jethro Gibbs/Donald 'Ducky' Mallard. Benton Fraser/Raymond Vecchio
Length: 4,436
Author on LJ:
aingeal8c
Author Website: Armani And Serge: Aingeal's Due South Site
Why this must be read:
Aingeal is well known in Due South fandom for her Fraser/Vecchio stories, which she writes superbly, and she is my favourite Due South writer. Sadly, though she is somewhat, in my opinion, under appreciated, i.e. her stories do not get the recognition I believe they deserve. So once again I am taking the opportunity of 'cross-over' day to rec another of her Gibbs/Ducky & Fraser/Vecchio stories and yet another crack!fic story a genre that Aingeal does extremely well - she is the only writer who can consistently not only make me want to read crack, but I ask her to write more.
This story involves a dragon, a Mountie, a duck, a Special Agent and his team and is set in Aingeal's Dragon!Ray universe. The NCIS team are mysteriously transported into another world; a world in which dragons talk and live with humans - well one dragon and one human. And to make Gibbs's life so much more alarming, his lover (Doctor Donald 'Ducky' Mallard) has been turned into a real duck. But why? Ah, well, that would be telling, wouldn't it? Together the dragon, the Mountie, the NCIS team and the duck have to track down who did this and why and get them to fix it.
The story has all of Aingeal's trademarks (apart from crack) insofar as the banter is superb, the characterisation spot on - yes even when one is a dragon and another a duck - the mutual caring, affection, friendship and closeness that we see in both shows is clear in the story. There is humour, tenderness, casework, bickering, touches of 'will they/won't they', deep caring and superb writing. And despite the crackiness of it, it is easily visualised and heard - it could be an episode from either or both shows.
Gibbs got up slowly. His head was pounding and he had no idea where he was. He knew he wasn’t where he should be as he was outside, out of the office, in what appeared to be woodland of some sort. He glanced about and saw the rest of team spread about around him, groaning
“Everybody okay?” he asked.
Abby was first to answer, bouncing to her feet. “I’m great, Gibbs. “
“Erm…yes, Boss,” DiNozzo held his head. “I think I broke something.”
“Probably your ego,” Ziva replied, she appeared unscathed.
“Hey!”
Gibbs looked about and saw McGee quiet and staring. “McGee?”
McGee turned to face him. “I’m fine, Boss, erm…”
“What, McGee?” Gibbs asked, slightly impatient. At least McGee appeared to be okay.
“It’s Doctor Mallard,” McGee said. He stepped back to reveal a medium sized, white duck standing in front of him.
“Ducky?” Gibbs asked in disbelief.
“Yes, I don’t think I’ve broken any bones but…” the duck paused. “What are you all staring at?”
“You, Ducky. Duckman is an actual Duck,” Abby said.
“Oh dear,” Ducky said looking down at himself.
Gibbs knew then things were going to get a lot weirder.
