Drinking with a Child is a multi-layered story that lays bare the complexity of Miles O'Brien's relationships with his best friend, his wife, and himself. Drunk and lonely, O'Brien's thoughts take him dangerously close to self-awareness before veering back into self-deception, only to swerve back again. Told in a fluid stream of consciousness style, the authors never once allow their subject to become maudlin or trite. Instead, they successfully combine a moving character piece with a titillating peak into the sexy shenanigans that ensue when the wife's away.
