Why this must be read:
It's only been a few hours since the chopper left, but already it seems like they were never here.

halfdutch is another of my favourite authors, and even though I'm particularly fond of her Jack/Sawyer fics (see above for the rec of her fic The Mix-Up), I'm choosing "We must have died alone, a long long time ago" because this fic - set after the end of s4 - made me fall in love with this pairing.

She writes Sawyer and Juliet flawlessly, with the mixture of strenght and weakness that is so attractive in both of them. I loved how believable is the implicit connection between them in this fic: under the disguise of a simple way to draw comfort from each other, somehow a more intimate message passes between them.

She's not sure if she's the one who gets out the bottles of wine or if it's Sawyer, but they end up on her couch, too spent to do anything but drink in moody silence. She squints at the painting of a sailboat on her living room wall. She's going to have to look at that same stupid painting every day of the rest of her life. She's never getting off this goddamned island.
