Once You Go Down That Road by Ladyjanelly (R)
Hello, my name is Denyce and I will be driving the van for Dark Angel this month. Sadly, I didn’t know about Dark Angel back in the day, but in the last year or so I have become obsessed. Please check out the Overview, if you missed it, to see why. I am a slasher, and a major Alec fan. So most of my recs will reflect that, though I hope there will be a little something for everyone.

Why this must be read: Twins! Double the pleasure ;) OK, besides that—for me it's newly discovered & I fell hard for the lovely, painful angst. After the destruction on Terminal City, Alec barely escapes with the help of his twin, X5-493. The fic is a wonderfully insightful take on Alec’s character. Wounded and struggling to survive, Alec discovers the differences he has with his twin, Ben. I loved the details she created, Alec’s voice, the raw emotions, and the painful descriptions that she used to create this world where Alec and Ben work together to escape from Manticore's soldiers. Perfect example: Alec drifted. His war was over, his friends were dead, and his body was too broken to fight on, even if he knew who the enemy was.
A thin red tube connected the inside of Ben’s elbow to the same place on Alec’s. A strange thrill shivered through him, a sense of connection he’d never known before.
Nobody had ever risked their life for him, not Max, not any of the humans or transgenics he’d fought and bled for.
Alec’s survival had never been anyone’s mission objective. It was downright unsettling.
Ben’s eyelashes fluttered and then sluggishly opened.
“The best part of us,” he whispered. There was an expression of quiet awe on his face that Alec was sure his own hadn’t worn since Rachael.
“Obviously,” he replied, filling in the gaps with sarcasm. He put a thumb over the spot where needle met vein and tugged the tube free. “You trying to kill yourself, genius?”
Crazy Ben, his murderous evil twin, who had killed at least five people for Alec in the last day alone, smiled down at Alec like he was stupid or high or both. “You’re the best part of us,” he said again, “You had to live.”

I guess I know what else I'll be reading this month. :D I got into Dark Angel because of Jensen f-king Ackles (a story longer than it should be, really) but also way after it was long over but fic! Slashy fic! I'm a major fan. :) \0/
