Finishing Stages by MollyTM (PG-13)
Fandom: THE O.C.
Pairing: Ryan/Theresa
Author on LJ:
torchthisnow
Author Website: Riders on the Storm
Why this must be read: I'm excited that I was able to find a good Ryan/Theresa for this month. They're quickly becoming one of my favorite pairings and Molly's managed to write a realistic fic about them. Theresa, for those who haven't been keeping up, is Ryan's neighbor from Chino who he dated on and off while growing up.
This is written from Theresa's perspective as she's driving back to Chino from Newport. Molly taps into how it must feel for Theresa to be around Marissa, someone who assumes she's learned everything she needs to know about Ryan in the past 8 months.
More importantly, Molly hits on the fact that while Ryan's life in Chino may not have been amazing and Newport-perfect, he had made it for himself, people looked after him, and cared about him. It was a life. This line from the story sums it up pretty good:
It’s not like he didn’t know what laughter was until perfect, pretty, Prom Queen Marissa came into his life.
Go, read, enjoy.
