Why this must be read: Written for due South Seekrit Santa 2007, Double or Nothing is a rare treat: post-CotW (post-series) F/V. Also, it totally rocks. It's a smart, meaty, involving fic that addresses the aftermath of Vegas -- the damage done to Fraser and Vecchio's relationship and the damage done to Vecchio himself -- within the framework of a taut, gripping post-Vegas plot. Brynn, being nifty that way, satisfyingly untangles some of the plot threads the show left knotted and dangling (and, like, stapled to a paper kite thrown into a ceiling fan) in a fic that's both gritty and due South-y and that's wonderfully emotionally involving. Also, it's hot. Hot like burning, hot like yearning.

Ray's first hint that Danny might've abandoned the Vegas glitz for the Florida sands was a bottle of high-end chianti, left on Ray's doorstep with a large ceramic iguana curled around it.

"You don't want to mess around with this," Welsh told him over the phone a couple of days later. News traveled fast, and the Feds still had their share of eyes and ears in the desert. "Let me call some of my guys down there, get you some backup."

"I can handle it, sir," Ray answered firmly. He was pretty sure he knew what Danny was capable of, and as long as it didn't go far beyond a little harassment, a little intimidation, well--retirement was boring anyway, Ray figured he could use the variety.

A few days after that, when he was standing in front of what used to be his bowling alley watching the flames lick into the sunset sky, he had to admit that this was probably too much variety even for him.

ETA: Oh! There is actually a slightly updated version of this up on my website, here (http://www.tandtweb.com/doubleornothing.html) (not that I have it LINKED from my site, because that would be too easy *fails*). But it has some typos fixed, etc. from the original DSSS version. Just FYI. :)
