The World's Fair Affair by Azdak (PG)

Author Website: Her MfU fanfic is archived in her LJ's memories.

Why this must be read:

Azdak takes full advantage of the wacky fashion, technology and politics of the 1967 World's Fair to create an entertaining story reminiscent of my favourite episodes of the show. The Thrush villain is dastardly, Mr. Waverly is devious, and nothing turns out as planned for Napoleon or Illya leading to capture and. . . I better not say, or I'll spoil the fun.

However, what impressed me the most about The World's Fair Affair was that it's all told from the perspective of the plucky comic relief, Maude. It's extraordinarily difficult to transform a self-centred and clueless character into a funny and engaging narrator, but Azdak makes it look easy. She even had me rooting for April Dancer, a character I normally don't like, but here April was the perfect foil for the silly yet gutsy Maude.

Further, thanks to the talented [livejournal.com profile] dreamybluemeany, The World's Fair Affair comes with special effects! She provided two entertaining vids to illustrate Azdak's adventure, providing readers with a quick tour of 1967 Montreal and a brilliant piece of 1960s Cold War paranoia.

Read, watch, and enjoy!
