Siren's Song by Tobywolf13 (pg-13)

Fandom: SMALLVILLE
Pairing: Chloe Sullivan/Clark Kent (though it's really more gen than anything)
Length: ~10,000
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tobywolf13
Author Website: Effulgent and Smoking Cool
Why this must be read:

This is a recently posted story that was written for the Valentine's Day Round of [livejournal.com profile] secret_chlark. [livejournal.com profile] tobywolf13 had the prompts of Chloe as Lori Lemaris, an AU setting, and an appearance by the Martin Manhunter. Not exactly the easiest prompts, but the story she came up with is awesome. Despite being an AU, the characters are still very much themselves. The plot is interesting, and incorporates elements from the current season of the show (a feat I think). The story is also full of [livejournal.com profile] tobywolf's dialogue. She does some of the best dialogue: there's that mixture of pop culture and turn of phrases that's very customary of the show. All in all it's an excellent story and I highly recommend it.

No everything changed for Lori---neé Chloe---because that was the day she became what she had always studied: the bizarre and unusual. In 1989, the world’s largest meteor shower hit her former home of Smallville, bringing with it a cadre of irradiated rocks. The EPA deemed them non-carinogenic and that was good enough for them, good enough to let little kids play with them, or the town eat vegetables grown on irradiated soil. And the EPA was right. They didn’t cause cancer. What they caused was worse.

They changed people.

They’d taken one of Chloe’s closest friends in middle school and made her into someone who sucked the fat out of dead deer, made the boy on the fast track to Harvard a very unusual Siamese twin. They’d given a girl the ability to drive people insane with a kiss.

For Lori, they’d given her something for what she’d lost.
