"Debate team." There was an edge to the student's voice again, but it was clearly no longer directed at Benton. "Thought it'd be fun, y'know? "Prodigy," Benton suggested automatically, not looking up from the file drawer he was looking through. He saw movement out of the corner of his eye, and could imagine the other young man pacing impatiently back and forth in front of the desk.

"Yeah, that." A pause. "Hey, I'm sorry. Didn't mean to dump on you like that."
