Fetish by Jenn (NC-17)

Hiya, I’m [livejournal.com profile] taltos_ and I’ll be your driver for March. I’m mostly a Clark/Lex girl, so you’re gonna get a lot of that. I’ve spent a few weeks looking through all the previously rec’d fic trying to make sure I don’t rec something that’s already been to pass. Most of the stuff you’ll see from me is old. There will be some that is pre-rift and some that just refuses to acknowledge the rift all together. There might even be a few AU’s. Maybe I’ll even be able to introduce you to an author or story you haven’t read. So today I’m starting with, at least for me, a classic author in Smallville.

Fandom: SMALLVILLE
Pairing: Clark/Lex
Length: 3600 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] seperis
Author Website: http://seperis.illuminatedtext.com
Why this must be read:

Jenn is probably one of the best writers in Smallville if not the best in fandom period. She’s a must read for every new and old Smallville fan and if you check her site, you might find other fandoms you like as well. She manages to capture a side of Lex that’s vulnerable, a side of him that’s funny. She makes him human, she sometimes takes the Luthor out of the equation and all you’re left with is a guy that has just barely dipped his foot into adulthood, a guy who is still partly a kid, and who just wants to be liked and loved but doesn’t think he deserves any better than the sneers he gets. This is one of those stories. There is humor and Clark being just a wee bit aggressive and Lex being as passive as Lex will ever get. Plus scorching hot sex, which is another of Jenn’s specialties.

"Clark, don't--please, just--" Babbling, babbling, but who could blame him? Woken in the middle of the night, felt up like a two dollar hooker, and half-blown--there should be *laws* against this. Or more specifically, laws against *stopping*. He's running for president. He'll see to that one personally. "Fuck, Clark, don't--"

But Clark's back in fetish land, doing his feel-up routine that's notching Lex's nerves up even tighter, and he's so hard it *hurts*. Big hands smoothing over his thighs, Clark's mouth following like there's an actual trail, and another wet, hot kiss to the inside of his thigh. He's--going to die. It's going to be in all the papers, everywhere. People are going to envy him. Until they found out he died *still* hard.

Uh. When I clicked on this link, I have to say I wasn't expecting something so... um. Frankly, disturbing. I know that Lex enjoyed it, but he couldn't possibly give consent while he was asleep, and some of Clark's dialogue and actions leave me under the impression that if Lex hadn't wanted it, he wouldn't have stopped. I guess what I'm asking for is a dub-con warning.

Thank you for taking the time to rec. I will be asking the author the same thing, as she also doesn't have one.

I am not referering to the excerpt. I am referring to the fic.

I am concerned that others, wh feel more strongly about dub-con than I and may be badly affected by coming across it unawares, might read this story and think as I did. YMMV, and some may consider this dub-con while others may not, but as those who do may be very badly upset I think it's important to warn that it contains elements which may disturb them - like warning that a food product was made in a factory which contains nuts. It doesn't bother most people, but if they're alergic...

How difficult is it to add a "possible dub-con, YMMV" label to this rec? And how many people could be hurt if you don't?

"Offended" doesn't come into it. I'm upset, yes, and worried that others might be even more upset than I am, but I'm not offended. You haven't insulted me, though you're starting to.

I wasn't aware of that. I've only just become aware of this comm's existance, I don't know how it works.

I am very well aware that Lex is happy with the situation, and that the author is (as I've mentioned, I have contacting her asking for a warning to be added and explaining why I think it's needed). That's beside the point. The point is that I found it very upsetting, and the nice people at ffrants, at least, agree with me.

I've explained why I think this is dub-con. You disagree, that's fine, but please acknowledge hat there is a grey area here. I'm not the only person who's bothered by this.

Dub-con is anything where there is any question about consent. I have a question. It concerns consent. Thus, dub-con.

No. Warnings are for the readers, not the characters. If a fic has rough sex in it, then the warnings should list rough sex. Anyway, some types of dub-con are things that aren't upsetting to the characters, but are to anyone else; for example, mind-control where the victim is forced to forget about it afterwards. The victim is all for it during, and has no objections afterwards because s/he doesn't know there's any to be had, but that ain't right.

Not weighing in on the discussion just interrupting to say I love your Lucas/Dawson icon. :)
