Simon & Simon, Eight Seasons of "We're not just Brothers, we're best of friends."
This is the Simon & Simon overview.
Simon & Simon ran on CBS beginning in 1981 on Tuesday nights. They went 8 seasons, and had at least one crossover with CBS's other hit detective series, "Magnum PI."
Rick Simon, played by Gerald McRaney, was the older brother. Five years older than AJ, he is a Marine and a Vietnam Vet. He wears the hat almost constantly, because he's losing his hair. He lives on his boat, called Hole in the Water which is parked in AJ's back yard, and drives a Ford Powerwagon.

Rick has a taste for beer and Texmex food. He's something of a slob. While Rick will get into fist fights and yell a lot, he forgives quickly.
Andrew Jackson Simon (AJ) is played by Jameson Parker.

Although younger than Rick, he is the more stable of the pair. After dropping out of law school, he worked for Myron Fowler's detective agency in Florida. He saved enough, that when Rick came back from his second tour in Vietnam, They moved to San Diego and opened their own business.
AJ owns his own town house, drives a sports car and dresses well. He's also his mother's favorite. He likes good wine, classical music and is a control freak.
AJ has a surprisingly violent temper when roused (which is rare) and holds grudges.

Recurring characters include
Downtown Brown: Town is the local police chief. The boys are constantly in trouble with him. (1-6)
Temple Hill: Town's girlfriend, a local news reporter.
Abagail Marsh: The other police chief. (Season 7-8)
Cecelia Simon: The boys' mom. She's an older lady who leads an active retired life. Widowed when the boys were small, she has done the best she can by them.
Marlowe: their dog
Myron Fowler: the rival agency boss
Janet Fowler: his daughter. Once engaged to AJ, but he called it off when Rick came back from 'Nam.
The Babe of the Week thing happens, often in duplicate. The guys once married a pair for Greek stewardesses. During the TV reunion movie, it came out that AJ had indeed married Janet, but it didn't last.
Slashiness abounds. Where to start?
Janet, in the premiere, screeching at Rick that she's going to fight him for AJ and take AJaway from him.
Overprotectiveness. Constant.
Old married couple behavior: AJ hiding the Halloween candy because Rick ate it all last year before the Trick-or-treaters got any.
Rick moving from his boat, to his boat parked in AJ's back yard to AJ's house.
Scenes like this, from "The Uncivil Servant" Season 1

If you can find someone who has a set of tapes and is willing to dupe off a few of the 156 episodes, enjoy.
