Doctor Who/Life on Mars (PG-13)
I missed Crossover Day, but this story is just too good to leave out.

Why this must be read: Doctor Who is a show that can be plausibly crossed over with just about anything. And for obvious reasons, Life on Mars can very easily be crossed over with DW (think how easily things would be solved if Sam Tyler just had an old fob watch hidden somewhere). There are lots of brilliant DW/LOM fics, but this one is probably my favourite. It takes place after the second season of Life on Mars and sometine after the third season of New Who. Sam seems to be adjusting to his life in 1973, until one Christmas he receives a very strange gift. So who is this mysterious Santa and why does he choose such bizarre presents? This story is both funny and intriguing and has absolutely perfect character voices as well as wonderful inside jokes for both fandoms. But for me the best thing is its feel-good quality. For some reason, after reading it I think that everyone will be OK.
At about four in the morning, a youngish guy, with a ridiculous hair cut that makes him look like he’s been electrocuted, ambles down the corridor with his hands in his pockets. It’s clear, even though there’s no sign of a Christmas present, that this is the man Sam has been waiting for. He knows this firstly, because everyone else in the building has been asleep for the last three hours, and secondly, because no facet of the man’s appearance belongs in this decade. It’s almost as if he expects people to remember him anyway, and has decided, therefore, to abandon the idea of trying to fit in. Come to think of it, he does look vaguely familiar. He looks like… someone familiar.
