A Year of Lies by MajorBrat [PG-13]
Fandom: TOUR OF DUTY
Pairing: Myron Goldman/Zeke Anderson
Author on LJ:
majorbrat
Author website: Notes From the Underground
Why this a must read:
There are two major genres within Tour of Duty. Those set during the war and post war. This a very realistic post war fic exploring the cost of hiding who and what you are. It is also about fear, love, small town politics, and homophobia.
“Is he family to you, son?”
I had looked right up into the old man’s face and forced myself to remain calm. I had been hoping to have at least a week under my belt before the neighbors started asking questions. No chance of that now as this withered old man stood staring at me with deep brown eyes set into a wrinkled, yet very alert face.
“We served together over in ‘ Nam, sir.”
The old man ‘hmmph’d’ and looked me over. “He’s older than you, son. Need to be careful. No missus ‘round the place. Don’t look good t’all, to tell ya the truth. You ain’t one of those free lovin’ kinda hippies, are ya? This is a respectable community as well as a proud one. No drugs, no major crime, and no homos. You ain’t a homo, are ya, boy?”
