Why this must be read:
Though relatively short, this fic is rather haunting. It takes spoilers from an upcoming episode of the show, and puts a darker little twist on them. It presents Chloe and Clark, and her clear devotion to him, how far she's willing to go, from the twisted point of view of another individual. It's beautifully written, but sort of creepy, which I think is the point.

“Do you see the good in him? Is that it?” The contempt in his voice is insufferable. “With your help you think he’ll be a better man?”

“Take me back,” she whispers.

“He’s a killer, Chloe,” he says. “He could kill you.”

“He could kill you.” Is that fear in her eyes or is she just putting on a show? “He can kill you.”

“This isn’t about me,” Clark quickly responds, almost defensively, almost as if she’s accused him of something.

Chloe gazes into the cold, dark fireplace. Her voice sounds distant, far away. “He’s unstoppable. Whatever hurts him makes him stronger. I have nightmares about it, what he might do to you. It’s safer to give him what he wants so that he won’t harm anyone else.”

“What does he want?”

“Take me back.”

“Chloe,” Clark takes a step away from her, “what do you give him that he wants?”

Tears flood her eyes. Her lower lip trembles. She barely manages to push out the words, “He can kill you.”

He staggers backwards like he’s just taken a punch to the gut. The air expels from his lungs. “No.”

“Take me back.”

“You don’t, Chloe,” he stammers. “Say you don’t. Not for me.”

But she doesn’t say anything. Her eyes shut. The tears spill down her face. Her knees start to buckle.

In an instant he’s got her, slowing her fall, sinking to the floor with her. He pulls her to him, holds her tight and murmurs, “You’re not going back. You’re not going back. Not for me.”
