Why this must be read:
This is an early partnership fic where Napoleon and Illya have only been together for two months. Illya is very reserved, detached and aloof, much like in Season 1. This piece of fic has to be read because of two things.

Firstly, the banter has to be right - score one for Jazline on that front - she gets the boys banter dead on. I can hear them saying the words in my head as I read it, which is always a good sign.

Secondly, there has to be a reason for why the characters are doing what they're doing. This story doesn't feature any explosions or nasty THRUSH plots but deals with the aftermath of such things. Wouldn't you want to be left alone if you were battered and bruised and had a really bad day?

It's all about the partnership and how Napoleon begins to break down Illya's walls, a process which I can see happening in canon as I watch the series. This fic may as well have been a scene right out of Season 1.

“What’s wrong,” Solo asked, moving closer to Illya to get a closer look at him.
“Nothing,” Kuryakin muttered.
“Nothing?”
“I’ve had a long, exhausting day. I’m tired. All I want is a little peace and quiet right now.”
The Russian turned to sit back down on the sofa. Solo noticed his partner lumbered slightly to the left side.
Napoleon followed suit and sat on the other end of the couch.
“I’ve been trying to reach you all night,” Solo stated. “You’re not answering your communicator.”
“Correct.”
“Or my phone calls.”
“Correct again.”
Solo looked around for Illya’s telephone, and finally saw it thrown in a corner with its cord detached.
“Where’s your communicator?”
“Under the mattress where it currently belongs.”
“I was worried about you.”
“No need to be, Napoleon,” Illya sighed. His weary, red eyes squinted in the lamplight. “I appreciate the gesture, but I’m really not up for company.”
Napoleon held up the half-consumed bottle of vodka.
“Hmmm. I can see that.”
“And your point is...?”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“No.”
