Hi! I'm Ender and I will be your reccer for Smallville for September.
SV fandom, and especially Clark/Lex were the main reason, why I was starting to be active fannish-wise, after years of lurking :)
So, driving crack_van this month seems like a perfect excuse to revisit some of my favorite stories! I hope, you will enjoy them along the way with me!
Fandom: SMALLVILLE
Pairing: Clark/Lex
Length: 52K

Why this must be read:
Why this must be read: I remember this story. I can tell you the precise date when I read it the first time, when I use copernic desktop search: 21 June 2003. I am someone, who had saved every SV fic she ever read and ever loved or hated on her harddrive the moment after I read them. Six years. Lots of additional seasons between then and now. the story hurt back then, and it hurts now about tenfold. I have not always been a Lex-only girl, but the show turned me into one. Re-reading this fic reminded me, why I hated it first, and loving it now: It makes me feel for Clark again, feelings that are not solely consists of contempt or anger, but that Clark has this overwhelming feeling of guilt and responsibility due to the knowledge about his heritage, and what the meteors has caused in SV and done to its citizens, that the expectations that as an audience/fandom we laid upon him were constantly from a perspective, where we *knew* what he would and should become: a beloved and worshipped hero.
Except, ... Clark doesn't know.
His choice at the end?
Broke me. Now, even worse than six years before. *sobs*
There are precisely twenty-nine people lying in Smallville cemetery because of the meteors, because Clark failed to keep them breathing. Sarah will make an even thirty. They'll lay her finally to rest in same dark earth that holds her latest three victims, just a few plots away from her first: Derek Morello, one time Smallville High soccer goalie and captain of the Math-letes. Future husband of Sarah Johnston, though everyone had scoffed at that. No one finds their destiny in high school.
........
He isn't human, and there is no room for him in human error.
