Why this must be read: This! I mean, basically, the love story of Clark and Lex is the one of a huge and larger than life obsession, whether in hate or love.
They can't let go of each other, in death or alive.
But what if you take this central, core mutual obsession of them, that is also the core element of 99% of the fanfics, away? How would Lex be, and how would Clark react???
yup. Right. What if Lex...
...sells his soul to save their lovechild Conner, only it turns out, it wasn't "just" his soul he bargained away??
every time I reread this story, when I reach the point, where these lines below appear my heart jumps. Coz its one of those lines, that I never expect to hear from Lex in full earnesty in any clex fic....
It is replaced by cold hard clarity.
Lex stares at the ceiling. He feels like he's up there himself, looking down on them. He's not part of this. He's going to close his eyes and forget, and tomorrow he will lift his lids and leave it all behind. And bit by bit, the world will loose all colour, all rhythm, all force and all meaning. Lex will be one of the many people, sleepwalking through a life that knows only money and flesh.
He stares at Clark and feels nothing. The thing he has sold for his heart's desire was his heart's capacity for desire. And now he doesn't even desire it back.
"I don't love you anymore," he says.
It feels peaceful.
HAHAH, TAKE THAT CLARK!

glad you liked it!
since I was kinda filled with glee over clark, I rather thought on terms about the story as "cool!!!" than "chilling", but your term certainly fits, too!
and bagheera is a fantastic writer, all her clex fics actually have this certain hard edge, that made me go crazy, coz her in-character characterization of clark and lex is totally infuriating :D
you should read all her fics on SSA!
