Why this must be read: I expected at some point this month to be reccing a story bynos4a2no9, I just didn't expect it to be a snippet, but I ran across this and had to rec. Nos is one of my favorite authors because of her wonderful characterization as well as her extraordinary gift with language. I shouldn't have been surprised to see both shine in this condensed format. This story is a bit of the flip side of yesterday's rec. Instead of Fraser being so convince he can't have love that he runs form the possibility, we have Ray aware that love is waiting for him, but he's too afraid to take the chance. Still heartbreaking, but with hope.
He knows it was love. He and Fraser just called it something else. “Buddies” or “what friends do for each other” or “something that just happens.”
Actually, he called it that. Fraser usually nodded, and didn’t say anything at all.
