Stress is the Silent Killer by Lynmonster, NC-17

Another "how can this not have been recommended here before" story, "Stress is the Silent Killer" is often referred to when people are trying to find other Ray/Ray fics, as a way of describing the emotional dynamic which this whole story embodies: Kowalski's jumpy insecurity versus Vecchio's buttoned-up pragmatism.

Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Ray Kowalski/Ray Vecchio
Length: Short story
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lynnmonster
Author Website: Lynne's Due South Index
Why this must be read: Because Ray Kowalski's ability to imagine himself into emotional trouble should be a lesson to us all.

Excerpt:

Ray had done the needy bastard routine. Been there, done that, got Fraser to open the car door. He didn't want to go back to that kind of crazy again. But -- fuck. Stella didn't call, and she didn't email, and she was obviously moving back to Chicago. Ray wondered what the hell she was thinking, not letting him know -- was it supposed to be some sort of goddamned surprise? -- and couldn't quite figure out why on earth she was moving back in the first place.

Was it for Vecchio? Because other than that announcement at the station, Vecchio hadn't said anything about it, and he and Ray were still groping each other whenever they got half a chance and weren't already busy arguing.
