Flying into the Black (R)

Fandom: THE SENTINEL/FIREFLY
Pairing: Jim (Womack)/Blair
Length: 3500 words
Author on LJ: Jane Davitt
Author Website: www.janedavitt.com/index.html
Why this must be read:
Once upon a time, there was a wonderful series called Firefly. A wonderful actor, Richard Burgi, had a character spot for one episode playing Lt. Womack, an evil, nasty, corrupt cop. Now, what if it turns out that Lt. Womack's senses are beginning to really cause him all sorts of problems. Oh, I know! Let's drop Blair into the Firefly universe. Blair is Blair, even if Womack insists of thinking of him as a Shephard. Now imagine how their first meeting might go...

This is a great story, well-imagined and wonderfully funny. Lt. Womack is just as powerless to resist Blair's charms/bossiness as Det. Ellison ever was. This story is very true to the Firefly 'verse while getting the fine line between Lt.Womack and Jim Ellison just right.

And like both The Sentinel and Firefly as TV series, this story leaves you wanting more.

Just a note to say that if anybody wants to listen to this story as a Podfic, it's available here at the Audio Fic Archive (http://audiofic.jinjurly.com/flying-into-black). This version has music, and sound effects.

Thank you once again for podding it!

Sure thing!

I'm halfway done recording Legacy right now, and then on to the endless editing part. And I still want to do Point of Contact for a Moonridge offering, if you agree.

Absolutely! You have my go ahead to pod any of my fics ever; honored that you'd do that.

If it's okay with you (you're the one who's podded most of mine), I'd like to set up a podfic section on my webpage pointing at the pods of my fics (or hosting them depending on the choice of the podder, of course). Is that something you'd be on board with?

Sure. I don't know about band widths and stuff like that, so I don't know if your web page could support hosting podfics, especially longer ones.

But links would be easy. You know you have a page at the Audio Fic archive, don't you? In case you didn't, here's the link to your page. It has all the podfics done by me and cinderlily and Dodie on it.

I knew about the page (which rocks!) but I didn't want to hotlink, but also, they're not my files to host without permission which is why I've never put them up. I guess I could point at the page...I would like more people to know they're out there!

I have trouble with understanding some concepts. One is how the evil overlords at work are figuring my pay these days. Another is hotlinking. My brain just doesn't really understand how that works.

But, the Audio Fic Archive wants people to link to their pages, Jinjurly (General Jinjur in LJ land) set up [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon partly so people would be pointed to the archive, since anything posted there is automatically added to the archive.

So I don't think there would be the slightest problem with linking to the download page each podfic has there. You have my permission to do anything you want with the podfics I've made and I'm betting Dodie and Cinderlily would feel the same way, since more ways for people to find podfics is a good, good thing,

Hotlinking is if you point at a link and a million people rush over to look at/download and the person's bandwidth disappears in a woosh. It's why if I put say a pic of RB up, I save it to my own space and point to it there, so the bandwidth drain is on me.

Of course, some people don't want you copying the pix, so in that case, you link..it's a minefield!

It's also bad to watch something on someone's site instead of saving to your own computer; if you only watch a vid once, it's the same use of BW as if you downloaded it, but if you keep on going back to watch it there, it mounts up for them.

::Beams at you::

I'm chuffed to hear that the podfic worked for you, and that you enjoyed the music, too. I really do appreciate your feedback, podficcers as a species don't get feedback, positive or negative, due to various reasons that don't need explaining at this juncture.

So, thanks a bunch,

Laurie

This is one story I always meant to continue and never did but oh, I bet they had lots of fun together! Thanks so much for the rec.

The possibilities are so intriguing... I heard Joss said Womack would've been in more episodes if it hadn't been cancelled; wonder where he'd have taken the character.

I still can't get over the way Joss got some of Womack's lines past the censor; he did the same with Spike; use English slang and it slips under the radar no matter how rude ::g::
