This was such a great story, I was surprised it hadn't been rec'ed before. I love how CC writes the guys, it is so spot on.
This is CC's own summary of this story: This story is a missing scene from "Snowstorm", an early season 1 episode. I've always been struck by the disparity in the Hutch we see in the final cabin scene and the Hutch in the tag. What happened to put that beautiful smile on his face? Something much more than a spotted dog, I think.


Hutch wasn’t dead, but he looked like he wanted to be. He looked up at me from the cabin floor—misery, grief, and exhaustion etched into his face—and I knew this one would haunt us for a long, long time. Even though his face was flushed, the color was fading fast, so fast I wouldn’t have been surprised to see a pool of blood beside him. A chill ran through me when I thought how close we had come to leaving real pools of blood behind.
