Why this must be read: It's the first Starsky & Hutch fanfiction I have ever read. And after I've finished it, I wanted to know more about them. It's amazing how the author could write so much, using so few words. I like re-reading it from time to time. It is Gillian related story, and there is a moment that I would just love to see on screen.

When he opens the door, Starsky is leaning against the car, hands in his pockets, collar turned up against the cool night air. He offers Hutch a shy smile, a small lift of his shoulders.

"You came back." Hutch says.

"Never left."

Susan is an outstanding author. She fully expresses what it is to be Hutch. And with turns of phrase like this:

The bottle is empty too soon. In the bedroom, he imagines for a minute that he'll be able to sleep, that fatigue will win out over grief and regret and anger. But the bed is too large, the silence too astounding.

one can't help but sigh and feel his pain.

I don't think I have seen any episode of the show before I read it. And after that story I was in love with them. That really means something - because after I watched the show I found them exactly as she wrote them. :)

After a line like that:

He reaches out and touches the bruise on Starsky's jaw. Starsky catches Hutch's hand as it falls away, and holds it for a second before letting go.
