The Ray Switch Remix, by Mizface (PG)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski pre-slash
Length: >> 20k
Author on LJ:
mizface
Author Website: 2008 Fic Round Up, 2009 Fic Round Up
Why this must be read: because
mizface took the AU bit from her 10-word-fic-meme and turned in into a huge, complex story, in which she switches Ray Kowalski for Ray Vecchio and rewrites the first two seasons of the show.
It's an amazing feat, and
mizface did a wonderful job with it. One Ray cannot simply be substituted for another, and so the changes to the episodes are varied, some subtle, some not so much, but the differences extend outward like ripples on a lake. Maybe a lake they call Michigan.
The story ends at the end of season two, but luckily for us,
mizface is already hard at work on a sequel. This really is a awesome story, and
mizface spent a tremendous amount of time crafting it. And it shows.
The trek from the airport to the police station was a long one, but really, it wasn't anything Fraser hadn't done before. Of course, in this case he was walking along highways, watching out for cars and taking care not to trip over litter, rather than tracking a criminal over a snowfield and keeping an eye out for thin ice. And to be honest, the multitude of sounds and harsh chemicals in the air were by far harder to deal with than the walk itself. Still, it gave him a chance to acclimatize himself to the city, and at the same time work through the chain of events that had led him from the frozen wilderness of his home to the urban jungle of Chicago.

Thank you sooooooooooooooo much for the rec, aka! You have no idea how much I needed something like this today. *hugs*
One quick note - you've linked the 2009 list to a flocked post (that's also incomplete). Here's the info for the more complete, public list:

Y'know, it'd be easier if you had a comprehensive list of your fic somewhere...*hints*
*twirls you* You and your story are totally awesome and deserve to be showered in confetti...

Oh that really sums up the story.
'The story ends at the end of season two, but luckily for us, mizface is already hard at work on a sequel.'
Really? I had no idea. \O/

Oh definitely! It killed me to end it there, partly because it's so cliffhangery, and partly because I wanted to write the whole thing. But yes, it's in progress (I have some BDtH scenes that fill me with glee).

Neat, can't wait. I really can't wait to see how Fraser and RayV partnership differs from the one Fraser had with RayK.
Loved the remix

"Nah. I'm just conveying some information, making sure you have the whole big picture. If I were making threats, I'd say something about head-kicking, and that I wouldn't care what happened to me as long as I took you down first." He stopped and thought. "But I don't remember saying anything like that. So, now you know," he went on, crossing his arms over his chest, "and now you can really look at all your options, see if one lousy shoemaker is worth pissing off an entire country for." He shrugged. "Maybe you think it is, I don't know."
You did a terrific job of covering all RV episodes in full or by reference yet making them RK voice and RK scenes. Bringing RV in at the end to take over for RK was wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
