Why this must be read:
While Stella Kowalski wasn’t a very sympathetic character on the show, I’ve grown to love her through fanfic, because really, if Ray(and Ray) fell for her, there had to be more than what we saw, right?
This is one of the most fascinating backstories for RayK and Stella that I’ve ever read. It made me really, really think about him, about who he was and who he is, and made both his being with Stella (and hopefully, in my slashgirl’s heart) being with Fraser or Ray (or both) later on ring true. Plus it takes the idea of “straight but gay for _____” and twists it around beautifully.
Oh, and ifzelempa’s name sounds familiar but you can’t quite place it? She’s the amazingly talented artist who did the stunning comic adaptation of Speranza’s Interrogation earlier this year. And her fic is every bit as good as her art.
Ray laughs shortly. "You don't want me to take you to a..."
It's weird, he can say anything to her on the phone, but actually sitting with her here, in the car, in the flesh, he can't bring himself to finish his sentence.
"Oh, please do," says Stella. "Could you? I've never been to a gay bar."
Same old Stella. Subtle as a jackhammer.
