Why this must be read:
14valentines is a wonderful pan-fandom celebration of women in the two weeks leading up to V-Day, and Day Job is one of the many awesome stories that was written for it last year. This is a different kind of Ashlee fic than the last one I recced; it's short, but I wanted something to go with the last one. This one is about Ashlee the pop star, Ashlee the mom, and Ashlee the wife. It's a short-but-sweet glimpse into the ways she's feeling out the balance between her career and her new family.
She just needs people to look, to see, even if they're only seeing the parts she puts on display. Pete's like that, too. It makes it easier, because she never has to explain why she does the things she does, says the things she says, in the places she does and says them. She would worry about it, worry that they're kidding themselves, only she knows all the parts of her that Pete sees, and several of them are things she's never shown to anyone. That makes it easier to remember that this thing is real. She's real.
